About the Lindsay Resource Room (student study and social area):
Dr. J. Gordon Lindsay, Jr., a native of Norfolk Virginia, was a member of the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 1969 to his untimely death in 1992. He received his Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Nuclear Physics. He regularly taught General Physics, Environucleonics, and Medical Physics. Occasionally he taught Freshman Seminar. During his tenure here, he was a champion of students by constantly nurturing them and had office hours that exceeded the norm.He was the advisor of the Society of Physics Students and was selected as an Outstanding Advisor by the National Office. His courses and laboratories were developed to enhance the students' comprehension of Physics. He implemented the Open Based Laboratories for students in General Physics. This was very time-consuming on his part, but it gave the students more opportunities to learn physics by designing their own experiments. For these and additional reasons, the Department of Physics and Astronomy wishes to memorialize our colleague, Dr. J. Gordon Lindsay, Jr. by naming the Resource Center in his honor.
